So I finished my FF install yesterday and got to test it out his morning. The head unit is a Humminbird 587ci HD DI unit. It was a special run that Humminbird made and isn't available at all stores. Cabelas and a few other retailers got in on the special buy. It's by far the best deal going for a GPS/FF combo as it can be had for $429 which is cheaper than the 385ci!

I purchased the Mad Frog Liberator Mini but didn't use the mounting plate. I did use the transducer deployment arm though. My battery is under my center hatch in a dry bag. I'm using a 12v 7.5aH rechargeable SLA for power and it didn't show any discharge after a 7 hour trip this morning. This unit seems pretty nice so far!!!

That 587 ci HD DI is a great deal! I paid more for the 385 ci DI I just purchased a month ago. The 587 looks identical to the 385, but with a bigger screen. They don't even show that 587 model on the Humminbird website. If they did, I would definitely gone for it over the 385. I didn't think they had a DI unit in the 500 series. Dang! I think I'll go ahead and get the 587 and sell the 385. I only used the 385 once on the water this month and it worked great - it's a really nice unit - but I think the bigger screen will make my experience much better. Thanks for the info, Ring King!

Cabelas has the 587ci HD DI but I found a marine store that has the for $432.

I'd like to get one of those arms also.

My transducer cable is way long however.
Might have to get creative.

For now I use a suction cup mount and coil the excess cable around the base of my 522c Lowrance.

I routed the transducer cable from the transducer to the inside of my hull, following my power cable, then coiled the excess cable inside and came out of the hull through the same hole and followed the power cable up to the head unit. I hope that makes sense. Basically there's a loop of excess transducer cable stored inside the hull that is routed through the opening that my power cable utilizes. I didn't like the idea of having a bunch of excess cable coiled around the base of my RAM mount. I'm an electronics technician in the Coast Guard and having all that excess cable out and coiled just didn't sit well with me due to my training. Too much to get hung on or snagged on objects while fishing/hunting.

I'll try and get some better pics of my install and get them posted up.
