Post subject:  PA14 Rudder Problem

Ok I have the 2011 PA 14 and my rudder cord to pull it up and down won't work.
It is not broken just seems to be stretched out.
Has anyone else has this problem?
I have tried to fix it by taking the rudder line twisting it up and putting a screw in it to be able to pull it up most of the way.
But like I said "most of the way" meaning it is not all the way hidden.
So can someone Please help me here!!!!

Roll the boat over on its side. Release the tension on the rudder rope. Untie the knot fastening it to the rudder (near the top rear of the rudder). Take out any slack and retie.

This will solve your problem provided that there isn't something else going on with the rudder line inside the hull.

Actually when I try to pull the rudder up on the water it sounds like it pulled up,that little thud noise, but it doesn't come up.
When I popped the black cover off up top in the rear and shortened it up like that it worked BUT not all the way so it is just a matter of a to long of a cord.
So I believe this should actually fix my problem perfectly.. should I leave the extra rope on for a few trips to see how well it works or no?

Hey Tom,
I finally was able to take time and try the rudder idea you told me and it worked perfect with out a flaw.
It couldn't be even easier.
