I need a fishfinder/GPS Combo for the new PA-12.

I always liked Lowrance

Do I spend the extrs $ for color or is B/W ok.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, I normally fish very shallow water and about the only thing a FF does for me is to show me depth. Can't remember the last time I saw a fish on my screen  Therefore, I always go cheap and go b/w.

The BW will take less power and also easier to see in bright light.

B&W works fine, but once you utilize a color FF it's doubtful you'd ever want to go back. I won't.

I think B/W is fine.
I have the Humminbird 597ci di and it works great for this purposes. I still haven't been brave enough to venture out past the flats and shallows so the sonar is mostly used to locate and stay on drop offs. It's been pretty useful in that regard - next season I plan on trying to locate some structure in deeper waters and try my hand at grouper fishing or use the sonar to locate schools of bait fish and give king macks a try.

Most useful aspects of the fish finder is the water temp readings and the GPS for shallow water. For this purpose, black and white is just fine.

I agree that B/W would work, but also agree with Tom that once you've experienced a color fishfinder, it's hard to go back to B/W.
