http://www.minnkotamotors.com/products/trolling_motors/engine_mount/freshwater.aspx For $620 or so I was thinking about trying to rig a mounting system for one of these on my PA - for those cartopper tourney's where everyones motorized, etc. I noticed in the FAQ's that they say "Mounting the EM motor on the rudder of a sailboat is not what the EM motor was designed for and would add considerable drag to the boat ". I'm wondering if there's still a drag issue if I'm just trying to mount it to the rear of the boat to propel the boat when not under sail, etc...any thoughts? I saw in a separate post how someone rigged a spring and rope hinged system to raise and lower a torqueedo I think it was, and something along those lines seemed possibly adaptable (understanding the EM is probably much heavier at 35 lbs or so and would require a more substantial system). The other thought was a smaller version of one of those 'thruster motors' used on ships, but I havent found one as yet that would seem suitable. |

It will do two things: 1. Add some drag. This will be noticeable when using the Mirage drive. 2. Increase your required turning radius by a substantial amount. If neither of these bothers you, go for it. |
