Hey Guys and Gals,

I let a friend of mine take my PA out while I was out of town. Homeboy didn't rinse it off after a day in the salt. Now I see some rust on the "stainless steel" screws. I know those things are not 100%, but I am hoping I can use something to get them off.

My question is that possible? Can it be done w/o compromising the plastic of the boat? My buddy feels bad and said he thought CLR would work. I didn't want to take the chance.

Good thing is the Mirage Drive had no issues. Knock on wood :)

You can do a search on the subject as it has been covered before. Basically you'll find that it's just surface rust and is nothing too worry about structurally. I rinse mine after every trip to the salt with a pressure washer and all my screws are rusty. It has been my observation that anything taken to saltwater is going to show some type of corrosion eventually no matter what you really do. I've watched shotgun barrels that were coated in WD40 just prior to launch become rusted before lunch time. It's just something that is inevitable.

I have been using a product called Corrision Block for years on my boats and kayaks. Usually put a small dab on the part I am concerned with, let it sit for a short while, rub it with some fine steel wool and then wipe it clean. It is also great for electrical connections.

Remember that stainless steel is stain LESS not stain proof.

Try using FLITZ. It has been around for a long time and says right on it that it is a metal, plastic, and fiberglass polish. I says it removes and fights marine corrosion and says it will treat tarnished brass, copper, bronze, aluminum, mag alloys, stainless steel, etc.

Directions: Use sparingly. Polish with a dry cloth while FRITZ is still moist. Do not let dry!
