I typically anchor my Pro Angler 14 with a 1.5 pound fold up anchor. The advice I learned in a boating safety course of 7:1 scope on the line is truly correct. The only time I ever have had any issue with the anchor holding was in water where my scope got to like 2:1. Purchase anchor line and a small anchor. The anchor holds well in 10 feet of water with about 30 feet of line even in 2 mph current.

lunker1;

You are on the right track. I worked on the ocean for 4 years N.W Pacific Ocean. What you are reading here in the posts are very good ideas. Most imortant is the amount of line out and the use of the chain on the anchor is a good chance of anchoring your anchor. There is a lot of youtube videos that are helpful and have great ideas for anchoring systems on kayaks.

Good luck and be safe. :D

8 lb mushroom for lake with rocky bottom and 1.5 folding cleat anchor for soft bottom.
I have 3 foot of dipped chain attached to anchor and two 50 foot sections of rope I can join (when I'm fishing deep, like off shore), so I always have 100 feet...

I also use a brush clamp with about 25 feet of rope when I'm river fishing.
I can clamp the rope on an overhanging limb if needed...

God Bless,
Doc S

I have 2 anchor trolleys (1 on each side of my PA) Depending on the conditions,
I can deploy1 or 2, 8 lb sash weights either fore & aft or both at the stern. I have not been fishing in water deeper than about 30 ft but, so far, I have not had any problems.

Regards.......

Just purchased a used PA 14 It has 2 anchor trollys but I dont see any cleats or clamps to tie off the anchor. On my previous yak I put the anchor rope through a carbine on the trolly - allowed the anchor to catch - and wrapped the rope around a cleat to keep it taught. Do I need to install cleats?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Dov

In 3 knot current with a wind I can get the three pound fold up grapple to hold but sometimes a good gust or a big wave will break it loose. The 2.2 pound claw will not hold in those conditions. Both hold well in wind alone.

I use a 1.5 lb anchor and with the proper scope it doesn't break loose under even adverse conditions. Of course there may some bottoms it wouldn't be suitable for. Scope is very important, but anchor type is equally so. Weight is some where down the list.

I use the cooper 1kg on my PA12 and am very happy with its hold. There is a smaller 230 odd gram one that is very small and light that would probable be sufficient for a revo11 or sport.

Given I'm from Australia I also like the fact that they are an australian design.

Buy one, you won't be disappointed!
