Post subject:  Rectangular Hatch on a PA 14 2012

I have been giving some thought into modifing my PA 14 2012 by adding the rectangular twist hatch that the new PA 2013 models have. First of all I realize this would be a massive hole to cut and just want to test the waters before jumping off the deep end.

Has anyone ever done this before or heard of anyone attempting this? I have done searches on many different forums but came up empty. I guess my main concern with attempting this would be, are there any structural differences between the PA 14 2012 and the PA 12/14 2013 models that add additional support in the hatch area of the kayak on the 2013 models? Since the new hatch is flush mounted and the area is usable to stand on, I want to make sure that I don't damage the hull or it give way to the weight. I found the dimensions of the hatch and will measure tonight to make sure the non skid foot holes dont come into play (which they might and would probably cause a no go) but what are some other things I might be missing in attempting this "upgrade" (Besides leaks!)? I really want the flush surface but I also like the new tackle holder with the ability to still have a bucket insert if I choose(best of both worlds to me).

Any thoughts???

And at second glance I forgot about the scupper holes which will probably make the install impossible...but Im still interested. :)
