Yesterday, I was requested to launch on a steep, slippery concrete ramp. Too many year of bassboating...I launched tailgate first at waters edge. I was nearly decapitated by the PA-12 and thanks to some good samaritans, I got it unloaded. When loading, I put the front of the truck towards the water and much safer. However, my bait tank now occupies my cart holes. Do you remove tank to wheel cart or ? Any other suggestions on steep ramps with a pick-up launch? Thanks, Jeff |

havabass, I know your asking about pickup launching but you can't go wrong buying, making/modifying a trailer for your PA. These things are beasts! I also believe you pose less risk of damaging the kayak (or yourself!) when loading/unloading. Used jet ski trailers and small boat trailers can be picked up cheap. Do a few mods and your in business. Just my two cents. |

I'm fat ...... out of shape and 62 .... well almost ..... and I unload a PA 14 from my PU all the time with no problem at all on all kinds of ramps ........ I don't understand the problem .......... back down , walk in the water, pull it out and into the water. Taking out ....... back down ....... pick up the front of the PA and put it on the tailgate ......... pick up the back end and push ....... done ....... |

I unload my PA14 from atop my Durango in the parking lot, install everything I need to fish and walk the boat down the ramp on cart wheels. After fishing, I go get the cart, install it at water's edge and pull the boat up the ramp to the truck. I can usually park within 100 yards of the ramp. Only once, on a very long (very low water) and steep ramp have I felt like having a coronary. I'm 66 and I guess I'm not in as bad shape as I thought. |
