Anybody (Tom  ) out there that can provide some details about how you are attaching your pvc to your trailers would be appreciated. It appears that 3" is the pipe size of choice and determining your exact length should be determined by using your boat as a guide (10 inch centers seems to be an average spacing too). What I would like to know is what type of hardware are you guys using?I just got a used jet ski trailer and am excited to get started. |

We use 2 inch pipe. The pipe is bolted from inside, bottom only, with lag bolts and washers in a slightly oversized bore, left just a tad loose so the pipe can move and elongate as necessary. |

How tight do you folks strap down on the PVC? Anybody have the PVC break? I am considering Drisco Pipe (HDPE), but it is more expensive. |

Instead of strapping the kayak down to the trailer, I wrap straps around the kayak and the PVC pipes in a big loop. This way the kayak can move with the PVC as it flexes. Sort of like a big spring. I use a cover to hold down the kayak with straps. Here's a photo;  The straps do not attach to the trailer, the straps attach to itself and works like your belt around your pants. Not like suspenders. ha! |

Thanks for the info....how are you connecting the front (and back)? Great rig...I would love to see other angles. |

the front is attached with a winch and nylon strap through the front handle on the PA. the rear is attached with a couple bungees from the rear handle to the trailer frame. This keeps forward tension on the PA so it doesn't slide off the bunks it's strapped to. Here is a photo of the front attachment with the winch;  I don't have a photo of the rear but it's just a couple bungees to keep the PA tucked forward. |

Thanks again for posting details. Doesnt that put a bunch of stress on the bolt holes in the PVC? Just asking. You have a great looking setup. BTW I saw the review on amazon.com for the hitch extender your got....lol. |

I tried screwing the pvc pipe but it did not seem secure and was a tad difficult. I tried othere methods also. The best I found was to use the Curved straps made to securely hold the PVC pipe in place. They are cheap, secure and easy to install and won't crack the pipe. I use 1" stainless steel U bolts to mount the 4" black PVC pipe to my three sets of crossbars on my post WWll 1/4 ton Bantam trailer. I used nylock nuts on the U bolts so they won't loosen up and the biggest fender washers that would fit to spread the stress a bit. So far no signs of cracking or breaking after using it all summer on paved and rough dirt roads.

I mounted my PVC similar to the photos in the above post but with square u bolts rather than round. I have square tubes on my rack. Mine is set up on a ladder rack that fits on the outside of my pickup topper. The u bolts are a pain in the rear to get the nuts started...especially if you drill the holes too far inside the pipe. I went on a 3,000 mile trip with mine and it worked very well. |
