I'm in the process of installing and anchor trolley and have been trying to decide which anchor to use. I fish coastal backwater and may take a stab at Delaware Bay and I quite honestly don't which would be more practical. Being as most times the bottom will be sand I would think the Bruce style but the grapple would probably hold better on mussel or weed beds. (planning on the 3 lb grapple) I also have a small danford but have not read of anyone using one of those.

I use the Bruce anchor. It's perfect for flat bottom fishing areas like sand. You will need to let it out further than normal when trying to anchor it acts like a plow when trying to anchor. And drill one more hole closer to the claw and tie rope there and zip tie the rope to the othe twor holes to break lose when anchor will not release from debris?

These things are all the rage "downunder" in Australia. Light and take up very little room.

I use one on my Pa and also on a "poly" 4m dinghy.
They work very nicely.
Shackling at the "head" and tying at the stock end with mono or cable ties is an excellent idea btw. Allows easy remival of anchor if stuck under rock. :(
I use 3-4 feet of stainless chain which reduces amount of anchor rope (warp) required also otherwise a 5/1 or greater is needed. With chain added I can get away with 3/1 in good conditions.
Cheers,
Rod :)

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll try the bruce first, but the other is pretty dam cool and if I get into anchoring often I'll get one.
