raginjrob,

I haven't stood on it yet but it won't budge. It's resting on two of the strongest vertical spots in the boat, the scuppers. The laws of mechanics say it has to be strong, and it is.

Thanks,

Carl

Hey guys,

I just uploaded a video covering this project (as well as the rest of my PA) on Youtube. It's kind of lengthy (30 minutes) but I cover a lot of stuff. Search MOfishyaker on Youtube and you'll find it. I don't know how to post a direct link.

Thanks,

Carl

Carl,

Frist of all, Thanks for sharing your hatch project with us. You are a very skilled person. Your PA14 is the best laid out YAK I have ever seen (Not to mention your trailer.

Congratulation on the completion of your hatch project.

Thanks again for taking time to document your project.

Never said anyone is obliged to publicly share anything they come up with. Why post projects in the first place if there was never an intent share the details?

Tom HAS shared virtually EVERYTHING ELSE that he has developed, or worked on.
Besides, it IS his to do with as he chooses. He has chosen not to share it because there is a patent potential as well as a profit potential. He just doesn't want us to steal his potential opportunities. (No one would. Would they??)

Regards....

Interesting items in both print and video abound, with no mention of the mechanics behind them. Sometimes it's just nice to see what else is going on or can be done, even if the details aren't divulged. At least I think so.

Tom, do as you please even if it does not please us. You must look out for #1 first. Thanks for sharing what you have in the past.

Thanks, enough about me though. I shouldn't have semi-hijacked this thread. It's about the beautiful work done on the PA hatch. Very professional indeed. Looks as good or better than factory installed to me.

Great job on the hatch. Great job on the whole PA. Hope my 2013 come out half as good as yours. What did you use to cover the rod tubes up with? I hate the rod tubes on my PA and they do take up to much room.

RLC,

I used the 1/4" starboard from my old hatch. I had to plastic weld the holes where the four screws had been to have enough material to cover both rod tube cut outs. Use the back flanges of the existing rod tubes to trace out the new front pieces, drill matching front holes, and there you go.

I couldn't make out which fish finder you have. Could you tell us the brand and model along with options please?
