Post subject:  Island Hopper Nemesis III ?

I have been looking into motorizing my PA. Been shopping around, and noticed that Island Hopper has come out with a rear mount set up. Just wondering if anyone is running one of these, or has any info about the product. I'm hoping Island Hopper is putting their money into the products, because they are definitely not putting any into the web site. http://www.islandhopperoutboards.com/re ... otors.html
Thanks

I wonder if he is watching where he is going in the video ( LOL)
I have a 2hp four cycle Island hopper gas motor that I bought from them in 2010, that I use on my TI. I have mine mounted with a scupper hole mount similar to theirs (their motor mount system wasn't available yet when I set mine up).
Haven't had any real problems with the gas motor except corrosion in salt water.
I've talked to them on the phone a few times, they seem like a nice bunch. Looks like a decent system, chances are it's a name brand motor with their own custom stuff to make it work on a kayak. There just aren't that many motor makers out there (of course they don't manufacture the motor). It would be a good question to ask them about repair parts, like where to get props, and replacement motor heads. Also my opinion anything electronic in salt water needs to be rock solid with a good warranty that you can count on (just my opinion). Simple usually means more reliable especially with electronics.

Huh ......... what's wrong with their website .......... seems to have all the info that I can see .......... maybe you should call them if you have any questions ....... I think you'd be surprised at the help you would get. I bought an Island Hopper scupper engine mount a couple of years ago and they were VERY helpful and accommodating and the mount performed great as expected .........

This works great. Watersnake T24S, Hobie Mirage Cartridge Plug, 40 amp hour 12 pound Lithium Ion battery.

It is Bioenno and I paid $389 for it on eBay with charger.

This is the company's online store.

With two aboard and with strong winds and currents we traveled over three nautical miles in our PA14, and the battery was still at 12.4 volts. And of course the current was against us both out and in. Changed while we were fishing. So I have no idea how long or far it will take us. Of course, Lithium has high voltage right up to the end of the charge.

Thanks for the info!

As with all lithium batts, love the specs & hate the price

Have you priced good Absorbed Glass Mat Lead Acid batteries lately? A Group size 24 which is about 40 amp hours of which you really shouldn't use any more than 20 is just south of $200 nowadays. To get the equivalent of the Lithium Ion you would need to get two of those and the weight would be 100 pounds.

I'll probably go with a 35ah AGM. Only weighs 28lbs & about $80. Also U1 size rather than Group 24.

This is for an i12s, not a PA, & only for getting from place to place - not for extensive trolling. Size & weight are a premium with that boat which is why I was curious about the Li batts.

Thanks for the info!
