I need to secure clips outboard for my push pole. Drilling for a bolt would be hard to access from inside and would chew up floatation foam. Considering a glue or epoxy as it is a fairly light weight job. Thoughts anyone? |

Use well nuts (Rubber encapsulated brass nuts that expand as you tighten the bolt), or rivets. Well nuts will require larger holes to insert same but will provide a very strong anchor. Rivets will require much smaller hole but should be adequate for holding push pole clips unless you side-swipe a dock or something like that in which case you'll probably bend or break the clips. |

I mounted mine with those plastic drywall anchors and stainless screws. Epoxy - you will never be able to remove them. At least with the screws, they can be removed and the holes welded back over.  I used rubber pole clamps and in the rear clamp I put a 5/8" PVC straight coupling that I reamed out the ridge on the inside with a dremel and painted black. I just have to undo the front clamp and slide the stake out pole in or out and not undo the rear clamp. |

Very few adhesives will adhere well to the plastic used to make these kayak hulls. Even those that do stick a bit, are better used to seal items watertight than to permanently fasten them in place. |

I have had very good luck with stainless sheet metal type screws driven into a very small starter hole. And the screw in threaded inserts made for wood really hold because they go into an 11/32 hole and really have a large surface area holding into the plastic. They are inserted with an allen wrench. Just put the insert on the allen wrench and then push hard as you start the insert. Try to keep it at a perfect right angle. The initial threads will grab and then the insert threads follow the initial groove until the small head is seated. The sort shown in the picture with a nice head will bury just right in the plastic. Just put a dab of sealer under the piece being fastened and under the head of the screw.

No need to glue or epoxy...Go to link: http://www.endroad.com Check out their "Mini Quick Fist" clamp, Item #30050. Cost is $8.95 for a pair. Only requires 1 #10 screw & washer per clamp. The website even has installation instructions. They are strong, dependable and reasonably priced. |
