Post subject:  Which Cart?

I am trying to decide which cart to get for my 2011 Pro Angler. I live in the Florida Panhandle and will be using it on soft sand, grass, dirt, some parking lots and gravel.

I am excited about hte new Hobie Trax 2-30 with the larger tires and I was wondering how it compares to the strap on cart with the 30 cm Wheelezz tires. I am not sure of how the heavy PA will balance on the tires when using the scupper holes in the tankwell, but the hassle of having to strap down a cart may negate the better balance issue.

I carry my PA in a truck bed with hitch extender, so I think I can put on the cart while it is in the truck and not have to worry about tipping the beast on its side, if that matters.

Any suggestions?

Strap on carts are a pain in the ***. Unless you strap them down they like to slide off the cart. Get the cart that inserts in the scupper holes.

Ski, here's the link to a cart I made to center the PA on the wheels.

I tried the smaller version ballon tire scupper cart and hated it, the weight was still to much on the arms lifting and moving it. I bought the large wheeleez cart and it worked fine. The biggest problem was getting the kayak on that cart. I do have to tilt the kayak on it's side to do this new design and it works perfect. I've had the chance to use it a few times with no problems.

I just ordered the large wheel scupper cart from hobie and should have it in a few days for an outback in soft sand. The large wheels will make a big differance moving a kayak on soft sand.

Look at the cart pics in the link in my signature. Slide on, slide off, held longitudinally with half inch aluminum rods. Cart is chocked for loading and unloading.

Getting the scupper carts on and off at the truck is easy. The tougher part is doing the same at the waters edge. I have always found it easier to walk/float my PA out into knee deep water with the Trax-2 scupper cart in place, then just pull the wheels down in the water to remove them. Doing the same with 30 cm wheels will just mean you need to be in deeper water. If you launch in an area where the bottom falls off very gradually you may find yourself a long way from the truck where you will probably be storing the cart while fishing. This situation led me to buy a Wheeleez Beach Cart this spring (30 cm soft wheels, strap-on cart) and it has worked out well. Just a thought...

Good point Jim. I hadn't really considered that, some of my beach lanunches are quite a hike.....

I do remember seeing a post on here a while back about a guy who made a little stand out of pvc that he could use prop up the back handle and pull the wheels out of the scuppers. If I remember correctly it also doubled as a "rocket launcher" style rod holder in his tankwell.

Also Jim, do you have the optional rail kit for the cart?

Thanks everyone for your help so far, its all got me scheming and brainstorming......

Fishin ski - I did get the opional rail kit, and it is necessary for the PA with the Wheeleez cart. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the straps which came with my Wheeleez cart last month were long enough to use on the PA. Some posts here said that they would not be, so they must have changed stock.
