Post subject: | Lowrance Elite 5 Battery/Wiring Installation |
Hi, Everyone, Well, I just finished the installation of the battery and wiring in my new PA 14 for the Lowrance Elite 5 DSI. I used the rear hatch and gear bucket method for battery mounting; I know Hobie makes a battery holder now, but I wanted the bucket and lid for additional water-tightness. The You Tube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-zDrsLfz-M showing the transducer installation was very helpful, but it took me a little while to figure out that I had to extend the power wiring from the front of the kayak (where the Lowrance connector comes out) back to the hatch where the battery is. I used a length of 18/2 wire for the extension, and butt connectors and heat-shrink to make the connections. I got all the electrical at West Marine; they had everything in the store except for the waterproof feed-thru connector at the gear bucket, which I got from their web store. I'll post a bunch of pics through Tapatalk in a little bit. Larry |

Continued Stripper/Crimper tool, also from West Marine Once the power extension wire is attached, the connector end is run under the deck back to the front of the kayak. I tied it off to one of the posts to keep the connections from lying in the bilge. Now for the battery and fuse wiring: The fuse holder 1/2 inch drill bit for the feed-thru Used a 2-flat connector for quick disconnect and charging (the charger I have has the same connector) |

Larry, How well has that particular battery worked out for you? Will it run that ff for 8 or 10 hours? Thanks, nice installation clean. |

Capt Gary wrote: Really interested in "run time" on the battery. Post and let us know. Thanks for the nice pics. Capt. Gary: I use a 7.0Ah battery and get about 16 hours use using a 597 ci HD DI hummer. The color does take a little more power then the black and white models... Hope this helps. |

Hi, Gemitaur Try this link for the feed-thru; I got the 2-flat at the store http://m.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... sNum=50567 |

May want to trim the wire tie tag end with flush cut wire cutters... you'll know why once you reach in and scratch or cut a water logged part of yourself. |
