Does anyone know what size screw it takes to put the knobs on the ends of the steering handles? Just got two from Austin Kayak and the included screws are too big. $10 for a plastic knob and the frigging supplied hardware isn't even correct. Pretty bogus Hobie. |

The screw should be a 1/4" 20 x 1 5/8" long Some boats had a nylon bolt installed into the handles that you first need to remove in order for the knob to be installed - please check your handle that it is compatible for a knob install first. This would be strange that a knob kit were shipped with the incorrect screw, but I suppose anything is possible. |

Both handles, the original and the extra one I ordered, have threaded brass inserts in the end of the handles. No nylon that I can see. Will check closer tomorrow but believe they should accomodate the knobs. It's a mystery to me but definitely will not fit. |

I just got one from them too. Mine fit just fine. |

Guess I owe at least 1/2 an apology to Hobie. The hardware was correct but the brass inserts needed to be chased out with a tap to get the screws started in both handles. With that said, had the knob/handle ass'y been standard equipment, this problem may have reared it's ugly little head during the production process. Just saying!! |

Here's a cheaper solution: Cut the head off a common 1/4"x20 bolt and epoxy all but a half-inch of it into a drilled golf ball. Perfect handle. |

RockyRaab that's a great idea. Wish I'd thought of it. Thanks. |

I drilled an eight ball from a kiddy pooltable. |
