I received a email from Jon Cooper on July 3 and they were available. He stated that they were not on the US site right now but if I wanted one he would send a paypal request to me to purchase. I sent a order to him this morning just waiting on response.

So my Small Red 230g anchor just arrived. It states on the anchor that with a short rope/short 1/4" chain, I can get away with a 4 to 1 slope.

Short rope/short chain is not defined, so I'm wondering if someone with experience could advise if what I am thinking here is reasonable for a PA 14.

> Using 7 feet of 3/8 inch chain vs 1/4" chain. [Can I get away with less than 7 feet?]

> Using 1/2 inch diameter braided nylon rope with an eye splice around a thimble to attach chain to rope.

I am thinking of 30 feet of rope for a 4 to 1 scope ... (water depth in salt marsh is seldom greater than 7 feet).

Bottom is primarily sand/mud. Tidal currents are not stong in the marsh. Wind can get up to 15-20 knot gusts (after which I will head in & wait for a calmer day).

Would appreciate any thoughts/comments.

Thanks.

A 4 to 1 scope should be considered minimum. You only need enough chain to get the anchor to lay over. I don't use any chain and simply use more scope so the anchor is pulled at a shallower angle.

Any time you find that it's not holding, just let out more anchor rope. At some point it'll dig in.

Hi Tom,

Where did you purchase your red cooper anchors?

I went to the cooper anchor web site but there were no red anchors available.

Thanks!

The red is the smallest one. Got it direct from Cooper. If they no longer have them, I don't know what to tell you. Sorry. Keep trying. Surely they didn't stop making them.
