2015 PA 14 on Yakima Trailer

I done a search for this topic and couldn't find anything on it so I thought I would ask

Does anyone have a 2015 PA 14, and use a Yakima Trailer. If so how is your trailer setup, like what kind of saddles, and are saddles enough support?

I don't have the yakima trailer but i did use the saddles from HOBIE on my trailer to carry my 2015 PA14. Mounted the saddles on cross member support i added to the trailer and it works great, no issues. Saddles per HOBIE are to be mounted 67 inches apart.Hope this helps!

I don't know if I can get the bars on the Yakima that far apart, and not sure if I can mount the Hobie saddles to the Yakima crossbars. I can measure the distance the crossbars are apart, and see how far I can get them apart from each other. Do you know if the Hobie saddles will attach to the Yakima round bars?

I have a Yakima trailer with my Outback on it (along with a storage bin and a sit-in kayak). Based on my experience with the Outback I wouldn't put a heavier yak on it.

I'm using Mako saddles and it rides fine until I start hitting larger bumps, especially if they're repeating (like the lines between concrete slabs on an old road). The whole trailer but especially the Outback starts to rock back and forth pretty severely, rotating around the axle. I think the trailer suspension combined with the give of the Mako saddles makes it worse. Things are a lot calmer if I carry the Outback upside down directly on the crossbars.

The Outback is about as heavy as I'd care to deal with loading/unloading. The Yakima trailer isn't designed for dunking (so my manual says) and it sits fairly tall so you have to lift the kayak waist high to get it on the rear bar. A lower trailer designed to be submerged so the PA could float off would be a lot easier.

I've been using this same Yakima Trailer going on 2 years, and the person I got it off of had it for around 2 years. I would say it has well over 100,000 miles on it because I've put around 30,000 miles on it in the 2 years I had it, and the person I got it off of pulled it a lot more than I could ever imagine.

It has the heavy duty shocks, and on the 2,800 mile trip we had 4 kayaks loaded on it that weighed around 320lbs with paddles, rods, tackle trays, PFD's, stakeout poles and any other gear we could fit in the kayaks, so I would say we had close to 400lbs on the trailer.

In one week the year before last we put over 2,800 miles on it. Last year it took several trips to south Florida From Tennessee, and a couple trips to South Carolina, along with countless trips to Georgia, Alabama, and East Tennessee.

Before we start up this season I'll be replacing the wheel bearings, and axle bolts and going over the trailer with a fine tooth comb to ensure everything is safe for travel.

From the research I've done it looks like the best thing will be PVC runners, but not sure if I want to go 4" or 6" and 8', or 10'. I'm definitely going to check out the Hobie cradles also, but I cannot get them spaced to the recommended distance.
