Post subject:  Treating Hull To Be More Stain Resistant

I love my Pro Angler and fish out of it at least 2-3 times a week. Mostly on the weekends. If I saltwater fish, it's no problem cleaning it. But if I fish my primary lake (225 acres in subdivision) it can be a chore. The lake is bordered by Cypress trees and has large stands of trees in some areas of the lake. While there are no lily pads, we do have a decent amount of duck weed around the lake.

After several hours of fishing, the first thing I have to do when finished fishing is clean the hull. It can't sit overnight for the next day of even hours as the yellow gum type stains from the cypress trees/duck weed will get into the plastic hull and in some cases cannot be removed. I usually have used several recommended items to clean the hull after each outing (Magic Eraser, bug and tar remover, etc.) and can usually get most of the yellow tar like accumulations off, but the bottom is slowly getting worse. If I can't keep it from collecting on the bottom, my goal is to keep the sides looking as well as I can.

Is there anything I can treat the hull with to keep this from happening? I have tried waxing the hull, RainX, spay on protectants, etc. and none are really effective.

Someone mentioned in another post a product called "Neverwet". I don't know if he ever actually used it. Might be worth a try. Google it.

The person that posted the "Neverwet" information also stated that it leaves a white hazy finish. It's something I might look into. It's just a little frustrating that the water environment that you primarily fish in can cause permanent dis-coloration to your hull just by being in the water. I guess that's the price you pay for fishing in a cypress tree filled lake.

Thanks for the reply.

I also read on another forum about a fellow up used WD40 on his hull. Might try that...

Forget the Never Wet :!: It rubs off easily and won't hold up to wear and tear. Guess it is only good for t-shirts and tennis shoes

I might end up trying a product called "Bow to Stern Protectant" here: http://btsprotectant.com/ .

Will probably get a bottle before the next outing and see what happens. Will report back if it works or not.

I had success on a Mokai, same material, by using Mr. Green and then going to a coin op car wash and using the power wash on rinse cycle. It did the trick on some pretty heavy stain. If you own a power washer at home you might try it, with the usual warnings about drilling a hole in your boat.
Good luck.

Oof! I've been wondering about something like this, too. I get a gross (!) black ring around the mirage drive from my "fresh" water lake, yuck. It's not easy to wash off either. I was thinking of using a product called Jig-a-loo since I have it. I believe it's silicon based and I got it to spray on the chute of my snowblower so the heavy snow (double yuck) won't stick.

Offside, if anyone is a dog owner, I'd say never to let them go in the water near a boat launch. I wish I had enough nerve to say something to the people I see do it. I can't believe all the gas and oil that lingers around, hence the ring. That would get all over their fur... OK, too far off track, just the images are linked: ring > oil > dog > fur. I suspected as much but the kayak gave me proof.

Try Bass Boat Saver. Works great on bass boats.

X2 on WD 40. It's full of detergents and is a great cleaner.
