That looks pretty sweet man. What product are you using?

Jerry,

Can I assume that's a tape material that looks like carbon fiber? It looks great! I really like the side mounting boards and the rear cover over the rudder housing. :D

P.S. - I'll make a guess that it is 3M Carbon Fiber Vinyl.

Very clever "upgrade"

Steve, you are correct. It is the 3M product they use on automobiles (interior and exterior). Many of the custom auto shops use it also.

About how much did you end up using? Are these prices decent for carbon fiber layover?

Price seemed reasonable. Here is their website. You will notice that it does come in different weights/colors.

This is very durable stuff as I had it on a self made rod holder for couple years with not fading or tearing.

Looks good Jerry! Image

What size sheet did you get to cover everything? I'm thinking that I'd like to do the side & rear handles on mine.

Island speed, is it easy to put on, or do you have a TON of patience? The install looks perfect in the pictures 8)

It comes in various sizes. For the modifications shown above, I bought a 1' x 4' roll.

This stuff is fairly easy to apply. Being able to work slowly with a razor blade and a heat gun is important. The Metro link has some videos which should give you an idea on what is involved.

Serious question: Is there an advantage other than mere looks?

Real carbon fiber would be very expensive. Don't think anyone would want to invest that much money in this type of upgrade.

My experience with this cover on the rocket launcher shown above, is that it looks as good as it did the day I put it on. No fading, no scratches, no peeling, no nuttin. Tough stuff. If they are putting this on cars, it should hold up to kayak speeds
