Hi all,
I am pretty keen to fit a torqeedo ultra light to the back of my PA14, I am hoping to achieve a faster cruise speed with the combination of both the pedals and the torqeedo.
Does anyone currently have their PA set up like this? What do you or don't you like about it?
What would you do differently?

Cheers
Brendan

The answer to your question is "i love it". Ive tried several other options and none compare to the torqueedo for me. Ive used the side mounted 30lb trolling motor that goes in the rod holders. I have also tried the Island hopper mount the fits into the rod holders none is as clean or as light with optimal power than the torqueedo.

Thanks baseman, what sort of cruise speed do you get using both the pedals and the motor?

......... Up to 6 mph with both but only for short periods of time....high speed REALLY eats up the battery just like any engine .....

love the combo but you have to make sure you line up the rudder and the engine. I have mine connected to the steering hub so the PA steering also controls the Torqeedo. This sucker turns on a dime at any speed.

ƒYI for short distances you can get 6 MPH with the mirage only... So the Torqeedo will not help in extra speed. but it will help on resting and still being able to move forward on a windy day... Good Luck

just what I've been looking for for two days ! Don't much like the idea of the one mounted where the mirage goes incase I hit a stump or something. Anybody know if I would still be able to use reverse with this setup without the motor kicking up ? Thanks...

Fyi... the eVolve version... The motor is mounted on a flexible (stiff though) fiberglass rod / batten to absorb shock if you hit something.

Thanks for the reply but a flexible fiberglass shaft (but strong) can still produce some major damage to a plastic hull where I fish should you have 500lbs moving and slam in to a stump not to mention it would likely destroy the 2000 dollar unit as well.
Ive hit plenty of stumps sitting hi up on the front of my Tracker 170 trolling to know what it could possibly do the PA hull should it happen .
The only reason Im pulling the trigger on a yak is because I lost the only boat ramp withing 15 miles of my local honey holes so I need something I can manhandle and put it at various different places and drop in at some public parks to access them.
The rear mount is the only way for me to go where I fish. Lots of stumps chasing the whites and crappie way up in to the creeks starting around Thanksgiving.
No way the stab in unit will make it where I fish.
It needs to be something that will get out the way because those cypress stumps dont play around.
Thanks for the input but the evolve just isnt for me.
That said I was researching more this morning and ran across the 20 page thread about Tom Kotman ?? and his secret propulsion system and I was wondering if you or anybody might know if it ever came to be or not? Thanks

Testing was a loaded boat running up a boat ramp. It does work pretty darn well.

Perhaps, but Im not willing to bet a new yak and a 2000 dollar motor on it. Stumps are like hitting a wall. Trust me I know. Its a fine unit but it clearly wasn't designed with stump infested shallow water in mind.
