Hello All,
I’m new to the forum, but have done a lot of research here and am glad to say I picked up a used PA14 (2013) last weekend.
My first outing was in less than ideal conditions, with 25-30 mph sustained winds from the Southeast, soon to be northern in a few hours. I had seconds thoughts about testing a new-to-me kayak in these conditions especially due to the fact that I had no real experience with the mirage drive. I have been on the water and kayaking for many years and knew my limitations, so I decided to stay within protected waters and keep it close to shore.
I launched the PA but kept it tied to the dock while I sat in it and figured out the seating and pedal adjustments. I was pleasantly surprised at the spacious floor area and configurations for the seat and pedals. I slowly eased my way around the dock into some calm water and got a good feel for pedaling the drive and making rudder adjustments. I peddled around for about 20 minutes and was pleased with how easy it was to adapt to the mirage drive. I was feeling more and more confident and peddled out into the wind and rougher water. I cracked a smile, it felt like this boat ate the wind and waves up! I’m used to paddling against the strong winds we have here in the Laguna Madre, but the Mirage drive really shines in this case. I feel like I can expand my fishing range by double if not more. I was very happy with the initital voyage, and can’t wait for the next.
I do have a question. Some of the foam blocks inside my hull were loose and sliding around when I picked it up. I figured out where they all went except for one – it’s a cylindrical, white piece of foam. Does anyone know where that one goes?
Thanks
That white cylinder shaped piece is on each side of the floor. So you should have 2...one on each side. They go under the pad eye area just to the outside of the black bases where the Vantage seat from legs latch. That's where mine are on my 2013. Hope this helps. Welcome to the PA family!
