People put lettering and decals all over the sides of their Yaks. In regards to registration lettering, most states where you use a trolling motor on the PA or any kayak require the vessel to be registered and the registration lettering displayed on the boat. Depends on where you live. I do believe Florida requires the registration if you motorize the boat. The Mirage drive does not fall into that category.

I have to have lettering but my wife doesn't. I have to register my Revo13 for sailing but her Revo11 is under the 12' break point in Oregon.

I was more referring to a name that you might name your yak as you would. A boat

Rudi,

I guess your initial question was misread by several of us...lol. I've seen a few pictures online of folks giving their PAs or yaks a name like a regular boat. If you have a way to have the letting made...go for it! Not a bad idea at all.

Steve

Mine is labeled in Black. It is called "the Dirty Oar Too". This allow me to post on Social media things like, The dirty oar likes to get wet, the dirty oar catches crabs and the dirty oar smells fishy.

Mattska,

Home Depot & Lowes sell 3" vinyl block letters that meet USCG regs. They're usually stocked with the plastic signs.

There's several people that vinyl transfer sell boat registration numbers on Ebay pretty cheap. Haven't used them myself though.

Most important thing is to clean the area well before application.

Any quality vinyl (3M) will adhere to the "smooth" surfaces of the Hobie's no problem.
I use 90% Rubbing Alcohol (to remove any "mold release" residue) when applying my sponsor's decals.

Most quality sign shops will do custom lettering/artwork that is good for DIY installs.

I'm thinking of naming my Prangler 14 the "Kayacht."
