Post subject:  Elite 4 HDI Transducer pointing fore or aft??

My first FF was an Elite 4 DSI. I installed it just like the video and used it 4 times. Seemed to work fine, but I noticed I didn't have much of a cone. So I now have the Elite 4 HDI. Still using the lowrance ready mounting and was reading the instructions for the installation. It says that if it is for shoot thru the hull, make sure the transducer is pointing forward. Of course it is referring to mounting in a boat. My questions is the lowrance ready system for my PA12 only lets you mount the transducer facing aft and does it matter? Is the transducer still in the water using the plate. When I removed mine, it had sand, dirt and mildew on it. It doesn't seem to be water tight. I definitely would like to see what's in front of me and not be running over fish and structure before I get to it. Any help would be appreciated. I read a lot of posts and didn't find one that addressed the direction the transducer should face and if it mattered.

The "pointy end" of the transducer should be facing the bow.
The "Lowrance ready" mount has the transducer about 3-5" below the water line AND not water tight so it's in the water....depth depends how much weight is in your PA......and works really well....just maintain a small gap between the cover plate and your transducer....per the installation info.
