Hobie’s H-Crate storage system keeps tackle, fishing rods and gear organized in one lightweight and durable receptacle. Assembly and break-down can be done quickly, it is collapsible for travel. Designed to fit on the back of most fishing kayaks, it also works well for increasingly popular SUP fishing. Carry handles pull double duty providing comfortable grips for taking H-Crate from home to car to on-the-water plus they are made of Hobie’s patent pending 12-sided H-Rail extrusion which allows quick and tool-free accessory mounting and removal.



The system comes standard with nylon straps for securing to your watercraft of choice and four rod holders including shock-cord rod retainers. Customization can be done in a variety of ways depending on the fishing environment and personal choice. It is easy to add accessories such as safety flags, camera mounts and cup holders. Additional vertical rod holders (72020025) can also be added to the grid walls.

Hmm... I guess the price in Oz will be at least AU$160?

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but that seems a bit steep for a plastic box. Do you have such a thing as milk-crates in the US?

They usually cost nothing and make great DIY projects...

You have to include DIY labor and materials to compare roughly and of course we have distributors and dealers to share margins with. Distribution costs.

This is complete and has many more functions than a simple Milk Crate. It packs into a smaller box for shipping too which is critical to costs of distribution. Lighter too.

Does your Milk Crate ship or travel flat? Does it have rod holders and leashes already? Does it include hold down straps? Does it have hex recesses for easy accessory mounting? Can you clamp the new H-Rail accessories to it?

There are always DIY guys... we build stuff for the guys who want awesome.

It is a cool product for the money. The H-Bar is even cooler! I might grab one if i decide not to go with the livewell xl .

Full marks to the DIY milk crate, but the H-Crate is a perfect fit for my requirements. Beautiful looking product. Especially liked the H-Rails and the hex nut sockets for attaching other toys..ahem..'necessary tools and safety devices'. Hope the Crate hits Australia in time for my birthday in mid February then I don't even have to pay for it.

If you take everything out of the crate and pack it flat for travel, then where do you put all that stuff? In another crate?

My slant is that it very often the DIY guys who come up with the original concepts, to which Hobie applies superb industrial design standards and a healthy dose of its own innovations. Recent examples? There were DIY furling systems for kayak sails before the Hobie version and, to me, the H-Crate evolved from DIY milkcrate/polypiping versions.

DIY-ers who take the time to contribute their awesome ideas to this forum are an important part of a healthy innovation system that delivers benefits to all consumers of awesome Hobie products.

The awesomeness accolades should be shared around.

True enuff, I just wish we could get a share of the profits as well as the accolades!
