Has anyone installed a Garmin Fishfinder with the larger DownVu transducer in the Lowrance Ready Mount location? Any issues with installation or fitment?

I did this last fall. I used a Drexel to remove some of the excess plastic on the lowrance ready mount. I then made a bolting location by epoxying in place a couple of stainless plates that I cut out a a stainless receptacle cover.

It took about an hour to do and the unit works fine. Once you have the Garmin transducer in hand as well as the lowrance ready mount it will make sense.

Not as easy as a lowrance or a hummingbird mount but certainly not difficult. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Good luck!

I chose the Garmin 551dv. I wanted a 5" screen and down imaging. The Garmin unit image looked very nice when I saw it at Bass Pro. The price seemed reasonable also.

I hope to get images posted tomorrow of the transducer mounted in the Lowrance ready mount.

i would like to post some images of the Garmin 551 Down uv transducer mounted in the Lowrance ready bracket. I do not have these images on a public access website.

How do I post them here?

These are Gladdly's photos of his setup that I am posting on his behalf:

"The transducer fits entirely under the cover plate and inside the recess in the hull. It is back 1/8" or so from the end of the plate. The plate drops right in place, no wiggling, manipulating or forcing at all. The biggest key is cutting away enough of the original plastic bracket near the bottom corners to allow the transducer to set lower and nearer to the bracket."

Thanks for the photos and nice installation. Is the transducer the GT20?

Thanks for the kind comments.

I'm sorry but I do not know what model transducer this is. It was the standard transducer that came with the Garmin 551dv.

I'm pretty sure you have the Garmin GT20 TM. I installed one in a similar fashion. I stole your stainless steel wall plate idea - genius. I didn't have to modify the Lowrance mount but mine extends a little bit more aft.

Thanks for the complement. I like the way your installation turned out. Enjoy the Garmin.

BTW, I think you are correct about the transducer model.

That's some awesome installation. I had the kayak dealer install mine when I picked up my PA12 last October. I have had some issues with sonar not reading the depth and the down scan works about half the time...Any ideas?

I called Garmin and they sent me another transducer but it looks like a hassle to uninstall/reinstall. And I found that the when the dealer installed the first one they they stripped the head of one of the screws so I'm going to have to grab another screw as well.

But any way, I discovers that there was a ton of dirt between the transducer and the lowrance plate that protects the transducer.
Could this be the cause of the mis-reading depths?

Ideas/comments appreciated.

Thanks.

For anyone looking for a solution for this issue in 2019 and beyond. I found a way to mount the Garmin Striker 4 transducer to the Lowrance Ready system in my 2019 Hobie Compass for $1.18. It's similar to what's in this thread but without the custom work. Here's the video: https://youtu.be/QKIU2lFFBjg
