I have an 2010 PA14 with the older style steering assembly that comes out below/behind the center of the seat, runs beneath the seat and then attaches to either the left or right front corner of the seat. Yesterday, I turned to the right and heard a loud "Pop!," after which I had no rudder control to the right. Upon disassembly, it's clear that the spectra line snapped just a few inches outside of the control housing.
I'm looking for some advice on repair/replacement options.
I see Hobie makes a complete assembly replacement set that's around $85.00. Looks relatively straightforward to replace it.
Anyone have any experience with this?
They also seem to have line kits for about $37.00. My suspicion is these kits are for the newer steering configurations - making them likely too long. Anyone know if that's the case? Any insight into how easy/difficult this would be to do with my steering mechanism?
Finally, someone suggested buying just the spectra line (he recommended the 1000lb stuff, not the OEM 700lb - any thoughts on that?). It's only $.39/ft so clearly the cheapest option. But it seems like it would be a nightmare to push a limp line through that tiny white plastic tubing all the way from the drum to the control assembly. It's only 10-12' I imagine, but it seems impossible (or impossibly maddening) to do. Or do you remove all the tubing, use gravity to feed the lines through and then reassemble the whole thing? If that's the case, it might be faster/easier to just bite the bullet on the $85 kit.

Any and all advice and wisdom gratefully appreciated. Links to a few photos to support my poor description:

Just run a wire through and pull new line with that.

Well, that's certainly the way to go. Pretty sure I can handle it.
Thank you, Matt.
I'd like to think I would have come to that myself... but I can't be sure.
