Hello,

Brand new to kayak fishing and would like to give kayak fishing a try on Lake Michigan.

In looking through past posts both here on the forum and elsewhere, there seems to maybe be a problem with PA's older than 2011 developing cracks? Also have read about steering upgrades to older models.

In looking for a used PA 14 to buy, are there any obvious year models to look for or avoid??

Going to use the kayak for salmon and walleye fishing / trolling on Lake Michigan and Green Bay.

Thanks in advance,

rudyc

I believe, if my memory serves me right, the first PA-14 came out in model year 2010.

I was under the impression the 2009 model was the first one.

Yes. they were first sold in Spring, 2009 as a 2009 model (there had been a production delay). BTW, it won the "Overall Best of Show" award at I-Cast that year. I would definitely steer clear of any older than that!
