Haha NOHUHU when I first saw this I thought it was from Kayaking Bob - and I nearly replied to him! Nice bit of photo-shop work there.
Anyway I can't bear to tell you the other version of that story..

Paul, I checked my YouTube stats today, and apparently I'm a big deal in Taiwan.

Other than that, it says I have trouble attracting women.

Hmmm,.. I shall have to re2x my efforts, along those lines.

Frankly, YouTube is messing around with its code, settings and channel formats so much, it's a total mess.

Is there a You Tube code that will trigger the Supermodels? No offense Keith, I would like to see someone else on the beach next time I arrive...

I'm glad it's not just me who thinks this. In my experience YouTube has dropped it's game. I spent weeks trying to get a video formatted properly on YouTube. Did it absolutely the same as I've always done it for the 20 or so previous times but the video clip kept coming up pixelated. Something has changed. I don't think so but it may have been one of my settings, but I couldn't get any help from YouTube so I gave up frustrated and went over to Vimeo. Vimeo has a completely different audience and the standard of some of the clips are amazing. It is certainly worth a look.

Slaughter, I have pointed Barry Jacobs of Camzilla (sportscams specialists concentrating on Sony, GoPro and Drift action cams and all manner of nifty mounting solutions) on to your Pulbah Island Overnighter vid. (You might like to give him a call, as he knows his stuff, on 9880 9883)

As a user and a producer, I'm growing tired of dealing with all the tweaks, which only tend to muck things up.

I have to agree, Slaughter, your videos on Vimeo look amazing. And on that subject, I can speak with some authority.

Hey Paul,
I live in Alexandria VA and I can tell you that there are growing numbers of AIs/TIs up here on the Potomac. I beleive that the conditions in certain places are contribute heavily to the popularity in certain locations.
I am 32 years old and own an AI, although I will admit that I also own a beach cat, and really only got the AI due to the finiky winds that we get on the river ;) I was always deciding between the kayayk on a low wind day and the Hobie17 on a big wind day, however it always seemed to die when I got out on the H17 and of course picked up when I went out for a paddle in the kayak. Then I found the AI, and loved that it was comfortable no matter which way the weather turned.
I will admit that in terms of all out sailing, the AI has NOTHING on the Hobie17! (I have yet to find a faster, more fun sailboat to singlehand than the H17, and if I am looking to go sailing that will always be my first choice) However there are times that I can sail the AI that I would never be able to get the H17 out, like in the evenings after work. The H17 still needs a lunch ramp and about 30 mins to rig/unrig, and I'd rather sail a slower boat than not sail at all.
I guess what I'm saying is that the sell for this vessel (AI/TI) would not likely be with younger sailors (they will always prefer the faster more exciting ride) but to younger kayakers and people looking to learn to sail. (I have found it to be one of the easiest platforms to teach somebody to sail for the first time on) I also think the mirage drive is a huge selling point, ESPECIALLY for kayak fisherman. I am often suprised how few people know about the Mirage drives and how amazing they are. They are always very quickly sold on the idea just after a simple description.

P.S. I have been watching your videos for some time now, and that is one of the ways that i first found and fell in love with the AI, so it would seem that you are doing your part at least :) I didn't realize that you were in VA though, maybe we could cross paths and sail together some time... (I also windsurf, and think that I saw a video of you out windsurfing somewhere, so that could be a possiblity as well)

I found that a lot of younger people simply dont know they even exist. I'm doing my part to change that.

Brian9,

I will be across the bay May 18/19 at the Okome Fest, Matapeake State Park, Maryland. You have the weekend free, sure would like to meet other Hobie sailors. I usually do a several day camping trip later in the year. Had people show up from all over the region...

Hey Paul, I'll definitely put that on the calendar and try to make it (travel planned for Memeorial day wknd is the only reason why I can't say for sure) Are you participating in the ultra marathon race on Sunday? I'm also an avid camper and backpacker so definitely let me know if you are planning a trip and want some new participants :) I look forward to meeting you!

For what it's worth, I'm a single 27-year-old guy who just bought an AI. I live in Tennessee, and sailing is not a common pass-time here. I'm an avid kayaker, and after discovering the Adventure Island last year, I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. I love the idea of sailing, but I'd never buy a traditional sailboat because I'd just get stranded out on the lake (and for 4 grand, I don't want to use it once or twice a year when I'm ocean-side). This thing is awesome because it's so versatile; I can just start pedaling until the wind picks up again. It also has more space for gear than my sea kayak (and I'm paddling out overnight this evening to celebrate that fact).

I think the biggest barrier to people in my age group is cost, storage, and priorities. I am single, have a good job, and a 2-car garage. Not many of my friends have the freedom I have to make such a purchase. They're either in apartments, starting a family, trying to make ends meet, or all of the above.

It's not an issue of the cool factor. Everyone around here who has seen my AI thinks it's an awesome craft.

Thanks for chiming in Bicx and representing your generation.

I have a co-worker who has 2 late teen boys - I took him out a few years ago and he then went and bought a TI

The kids thought it was cool but after a couple of summer weekends at the lakehouse they went back to blasting away on their JetSki's leaving Dad to sail alone

... I think this is a valid generalization - given a 3-5K budget, MOST 18-25 ? 35? year olds would rather blast around on a water rocket than go sail a plastic boat.

Yeah - they don't "get it"
