Division 11 encompasses the mid-Atlantic coast from Virginia to southern New York, plus West Virginia and southeast Pennsylvania.

Home page: http://www.div11.hobieclass.com

Fleets can be found on this page: http://div11.hobieclass.com/fleets/ but the ones I can find websites for are:

DE Fleet 106 Rehoboth Bay: http://www.rbsa.org/hobie.html
NJ Fleet 65 Ocean County: http://www.shoreacresyachtclub.org
NJ Fleet 250 Sandy Hook: http://www.fleet250.org
NJ Fleet 267 Long Beach Island https://www.spraybeachyachtclub.com

VA Fleet 32 Virginia Beach: https://www.facebook.com/Hobie-Fleet-32 ... 496647620/ is actually in Division 9.

It used to be in Division 9 . . .

About 2 years ago, the division boundary was adjusted to include them in Division 11, since there were no active fleets to the south in NC, while the Division 11 fleets are very active.

The boundary line used to run through mid-VA; now it's the VA / NC state line. That's actually how is was in the '70s before the Richmond / VA Beach fleets petitioned to be added to Div 9 since they tended to travel south to regattas (all of which are gone now).

The HCANA website thinks it still is... but thanks for the history. Makes sense! And I thought I saw a Div 9 reference on the Fleet 32 site also, but I can't see it there now. I'll update the first post.

Div 9 has 3 active fleets...

Fleet 97 - Raleigh
Fleet 32 - Va Beach
Fleet 53 - Charleston

There are plenty of regattas in the area including 3 Hobie 16/18 Points Regattas in 2014. http://www.emsa-sailing.org/schedule/

I'm not sure of the history regarding Fleet 32. They appear as Division 9 on the HCANA pages.

Yep, The HCANA site shows Fleet 32 as a Division 9 fleet. Since I've been the Division 9 Chair, for about a year now, I've been corresponding with the Fleet 32 Commodore, Carter Paradis, and we've been operating as if they are a Division 9 fleet. If they were rezoned as a Division 11 Fleet at one time, apparently it fell on deaf ears. Currently, all of the relevant parties that are working hands on with Division 9 or Fleet 32 believe they are a Division 9 Fleet.

Piggybacking on Garrett's post, Division 9 is experiencing a resurgence. We reactivated Fleets 53 and 97 last year. In 2012 we had our first HCANA Points Regatta in several years. In 2013 we have three Points Regattas on the calendar. I sent emails to the Hotline Editor and to the HCANA Webmaster to get our points regattas on the published schedules. I've also requested that two Fleet 32 non-points regattas be included on the schedules.

DIVISION 9 IS BACK!!!

Anton, I hate to whipsaw you back and forth, but would you mind editing your initial post in this thread back to it's original language indicating that Fleet 32 is a Division 9 fleet? I've been working hard to engage those guys in Division 9 regattas.

Thanks,

Note that the schedule on the Division 11 website has a link to a Division 9 regatta schedule, and it too lists the Fleet 32 regattas as being in Division 9.

Thanks, Division 11, for helping us get the word out about Division 9. We hope to see y'all traveling south to race with us in Division 9.

There's nothing preventing Fleet 32 from being included in both divisions.

Like I said, they were originally in D11 until they (and the now-defunct Richmond Fleet 221) petitioned to be in D9.

How do I know this? I was a member of the Fleet 221 from 1974 - 1982. I was born and raised in Richmond and learned how to sail on the Chesapeake Bay.

I'm not redrawing the division boundaries on the map in the Hotline, though. That Illustrator file is evil.

Well, I don't own Div 11 or Fleet 32, I just want the Div 11 forum to have useful info! Considering there was NOTHING here a few days ago. Hopefully I'll be able to add even more stuff to the opening post as time goes on. I'll adjust the wording as time goes on and I also don't see why a fleet has to be one Division or another. The individual members might want to focus their points-winning in one or another but at the fleet level I don't see it. But then again I have zero HCANA experience.

I'll add whatever events I learn of, but hopefully others will do the same. The official Div 11 site has zero events on the calendar and dead links for some of the fleets. Looks like there has been little work on it in years.

The "Calendar" tab on the Div 11 page is always blank (at least I've never seen anything on it). It should probably be removed from the page. The regatta schedule is posted in the "Regatta Info" tab (although it still needs to be updated from 2013 to 2014 schedule). Really the only "events" in the division are regattas.

Most of the communication within Division 11 has been through the Yahoo Group lately.

This year's regatta schedule is:

Gunpowder, May 3/4
Sandy Hook, May 31/1
Shore Acres, June 7/8
Rock Hall, June 21/22
Hobie 14 NAC (Sandy Hook), July 10-12
Barnegat Breezer, July 19/20
Spray Beach, August 23/24
Rehoboth (RBSA), Sept 6/7
H16 NAC (Lewes, DE), Sept 22-26

The Division 11 link that Anton provided is updated and current: http://www.div11.hobieclass.com.

With regards to redrawing the map in the Hotline, I wouldn't worry about it - the scale is so small that I wouldn't expect it to be accurate down to just a few miles. Since Virginia Beach is just barely across the border, I just didn't give it much consideration. But the fleet listing on the web site has had Fleet 32 listed as a Division 9 fleet for a long time. I'm not going to argue with Matt that Fleet 32 may have been put in Division 11 at some point, but it doesn't look like he word got out since everybody's operating as though it belongs in Division 9. The status quo is for them to be a Division 9 fleet, so unless the Fleet 32 guys want to reclassify them selves into Division 11, let's just leave this as is.

So why does it matter? Several of us down here in Division 9 have been working hard to resurrect this Division that had been dormant for several years. Towards that end, we reactivated Fleets 53 and 97 last year and opened dialog with Fleet 32. One of the things that we are doing to encourage more regatta participation is to hold a Division 9 Championship Points Series composed of the three points regattas we have this year. For that to work, we need sailors, and if the Virginia Beach guys feel connected, there's a better chance of them participating. More participants means more fun for all, and thus more likely that our regattas and numbers of participants will continue to grow. The point I'm trying to make is that I'm not trying to have a turf battle just for the sake of it, there is a reason. The insinuation that all of the Division 9 regattas are gone could not be more wrong. If that was the rationale for trying to rezone Fleet 32 into Division 11, then it is no longer applicable. Additionally, I have been talking with the Fleet 32 Commodore, Carter Paradis, about the possibility of including a Fleet 32 regatta as part of the Division 9 Championship Points Series in the near future. We are embracing Fleet 32 as a Division 9 fleet and they are a critical block in the reconstruction of Division 9. We will whole-heartedly welcome Division 11 sailors at our Division 9 points regattas.
