Post subject:  History- old photos of the Glenora cup

The now defunct Fleet 86 used to host this fantastic event on Seneca Lake with a major sponsor- Glenora Winery. The owners, operators and friends of the winery were huge Hobie fans and hugely supportive. We had hundreds of boats in all classes. It was a logistical nightmare but we pulled it off several years in a row. When we lost the winery sponsorship, things started to slide, interest waned and the Fleet dissolved. Oh well, as George Harrison sang "all things must pass" :(

Here are few old photos that I found- No better place to share them than with peeps who are still having a Hobie day 8)

I am trying to upload from a Yahoo groups site, never did that before- any words of wisdom from the gallery?

They may not allow hotlinking. Try uploading them to a different hosting site. :dunno:

Post subject:  I think something is weird here

Thanks Matt - I am trying to download from a friends local metal band yahoo site. It is a process that has worked for me in the past on other forums. I am apparently experiencing operator error  The WEIRD thing is that I can see the photos when I pull up this forum so I can't tell if you all can see them or not unless I go to another friends computer !!

So- until a picture REALLY becomes worth a thousand words, I will have to find another way to upload them. No biggie, just many many sails of many different colors on the shores of Seneca Lake- really pretty!

Peace out-

Post subject:  Thanks for the offer

Nice website/log Jim. I encourage other peeps to visit it. There is another one somewhere on this forum that is a fantastic story about a trip around the Baja peninsula. A ballsy trip for sure.

I appreciate your offer to mail you the photos, but you don't have an email listed. Is there another way to contact you? Thanks again,

Happy sails!

Post subject:  You do nice work!

Thank you! 8) I was blind but now I see  Nice work on the clean up.

I love the colors against the trees and within the trees. We had about 180 boats back then. Registration was only $50 a boat and included a chance at a door prize (good door prizes like camping gear, propane grill, cooler etc) a pig roast dinner and kegger on Saturday night, as well as a pancake breakfast and a lunch.

Of course that was a long time ago when we used to hike five miles to school in the snow, uphill, both ways...

Post subject:  Glenora cup

I was a member of fleet 86 back then. 1983 - 1987 Then I started going to regattas more and fleet racing less. I ended up joining fleet 204 in 1986 or 1987 when I made A fleet. One of your pictures is from the Sunday fleet race at Smith park a little ways up the East side of the lake from Watkins Glen. I attended all fo the Glenora cups from 1984 to whenever they ended and both of the womens regattas that they held out of Smith park.

Brings back nice memories.

Bill-

I knew that someone would show up eventually from this neck of the woods :) Welcome!

Yeah those were good times, glad you spotted the pictures. I am sure that you are correct about the Smith Park Picture because I just found another picture from a batch of those showing my boat, tent, car, (same one that I have in the Assateague pictures) and a couple people with beers and other imbibments in their hands whose backs are to us in this photo 8)

Do you sail on Sodus or Ontario? I'll hitch up the 17 and catch up to you someday.

Happy Sails! - Stephen

Stephen,

I mostly sail at regattas although I live on the lake. I go to about 12 a year. I am still a member of fleet 204. I have a 17 also. (and a 14) I will be getting the 17 out of the garage this summer to get ready for Nationals which are right in Delaware. Actually the 14's are the weekend before so I will sail in both.

1st regatta around here is the Madcatter in Syracuse. See fleet204.com for details.

cheers
Bill
