i store my boat at mast up storage but the only way i can keep my sails there is in a pipe i cant build a box. so would it be best if i just take them home each time?

i know its a old thread but i have a 12" pipe for my main sail but i need a caps for it and i cant find them online does any one know were i can find it?

more I think about it, I am thinking that building a box out of treated plywood and then covering it in fibreglass cloth may be the best route to go.

Alternatively, you could just buy a gallon of truck bed liner and roll on a couple of coats. Less expensive and time consuming IMO.

I don't know if it was this thread or not, but a BIG consideration is venting. PVC will sweat and the sails will get mold on them, so use your PVC tube just to transport the sails, not to store them. One sailor outfitted his tube with a 12V blower but I don't remember know that turned out.

I don't think vent holes will do too much. I left out something in my last post- I believe the guy who added the fan actually added a small fan/dehumidifier unit like the kind you can buy for boats and RVs- check out Ebay. Something to consider is that if you sail in salt water you will get salt on your sails- salt attracts moisture.

i keep my boat at the sarasota sailing squadron. i store a laser and my hobie there , they have a field for mast up and covered racks for small boats, i was going to put the tube in the rack next to my laser. there is no room near my hobie and when it rains hard there is a couple in. of water next to my boat

Vents: I put 2 inch round louver vents from a home supply store in each end of my plastic tube. Anything that is plastic needs to be vented, and a cross flow of air is the best most can get with low maintenance. When I go sailing, the end of the tube stays off.

I think the key, whatever you decide, is to only use it to transport the sails and for short-term storage. Never use it to store salty or damp sails.

I have a Jetski Trailer that I did that to over 10 years ago that to this day still looks good, this is after 3 different times it was painted from 1994 to 2003. May have to do that.
