Does anyone know where the wheel/hub from a Cat Trax can be sourced from?

The balloon tires are cheap, Nanco N800's which can be had readily for under $50/tire.

The rest of the parts are trivial -- 2" aluminum tube 96" long, some Delrin rod cut to length for bearings, washers and cotter pins and such.

I have searched high and low and cannot find the wheels used on a proper Cat Trax. It could be that they are proprietary.

Could use a 8" x 9" steel wheel which are cheap and available, but then you've got to deal with a 4 bolt 4" hub and it goes downhill from there, too complex and heavy for the beach.

The wheel hub is the key to success in fabricating these cheaply at home.

Thanks Matt - yes, I'm trying to home brew their product... I suspect it can be done substantially cheaper and avoid the huge shipping costs on the 8-foot axle by purchasing locally.

The only part I cannot replicate is their wheel/hub which might be a proprietary product as I cannot find one with similar specifications anywhere.

I'd look at some unusual places for wheels. Go karts often have aluminum wheels, for example. BMI Karts and Parts looks like it might have the wheel for less than fifty dollars. Some equipment like log splitters, wood chippers can have the appropriate size hub. You're looking especially for equipment that has wheels but doesn't travel at highway speeds.

With the go kart wheels, it would be relatively simple to fabricate the hub, as it doesn't have to be quite perfect on roundness (it doesn't spin that fast). However, at $175 for a rim and tire from Florida Sailcraft, I'm not sure the money savings is going to be better than the cost savings of fabricating something taking X number of hours and which won't be as good, unless you have some serious tools.

By the way, I lost one of my bearings from my Cat-Trax. I wish I'd know about Florida Sailcraft. At $38 for a set (more than I needed), it might have been a better investment than the ten dollars I spent on the part, and the several hours it took me to find it.

Where are you located? I've got two hubs with bad tires floating around somewhere.
