Post subject:  Help with Rivets...

Hello. I just received a new tack plate and a new jib clew plate for my Hobie 16. I am familar with how to set certain types of rivets, namely those that fit in to my rivet gun. However, I have not a clue as to how I should set the rivets that came with the plates. What do you suggest? Thanks...

These rivets need to be flaired and then hammered flat on the end.

Clamp the plate to the sail. Place the rivets through the plate and lay the flattened ends on metal surface (hollow end up). Use a center punch to flair the hollow ends, then hammer each flat and tight to the plate.

Thanks for the rapid reply. It seems easy enough to use these rivets. Wish me luck...

Hello, Nick. I shall explain the signature: The Jersey shore is where my parents reside in summer months. I lived in Margate specifically and sailed my H14 there until I left for medical school. Now that I am here in Pittsburgh, I sail my H16 on Lake Erie. I do not get to the shore much these days, but the faithful 14 is awaiting my return.
