Post subject:  Older Sail Patterns

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone know of a site anywhere that shows all the older sail patterns (tequila sunrise, etc.)? I'm just sort of curious.

Also, on an unrelated note, I'm taking another look at an '80 Hobie 18 today and thinking about buying it. It looks to be in fantastic shape, other than some dirt and a small soft spot (easily fixed). I've read through the comments on used 18's regarding the "bad" years in the mid 80's and extra stress from wings, etc. I know the '80 boats weren't designed to support wings exactly, but they were also made before the hulls were lightened as well. Does anyone have any experience putting wings on an '80 model? Does it seem to hold up ok, or is that just not a good idea?

Thanks guys (and gals!)

-Bill

I have an 1980 18 and a previous owner installed wings on it. Every thing seems sturdy after one weekend of sailing, though I did noticed the pins on the gunnels have bent a little. They are a great feature for leisure sailing.

I have put wings on my 89 H-18. Make sure you beef up the deck to hull flange with anchor plates. Don't over load the wings weight wise and enjoy some comfortable fast sailing.
