It looks like the '87 boat all the way to the left. The registration says '88 and so does the serial number on the hulls. Funny thing is too, the boat says its made by Coleman.

Do you have clip are for everything??

Prism - 1984
(The nationals boats were the sail colors for the following year)

(Red) Rocket - 1978
Went along with the Blue Streak, White Knight, Goldfinger, Keoke, and 2nd generation Tequila Sunrise (with blue hulls vs yellow)

Sunburst - I gotta go look that one up. I'm gonna guess early 80's.

Chris,

That's right, it should be a Coleman, changed back to Hobie Cat Company in January 1989.

That's the back cover of the program I did for the Ventura event - your kid should have one of those, Chris.

Here's the front:
Image

Those are the sail colors on the factory-supplied boats in all the years that they supplied boats. The other classes (14's and 18's) were similar. Those were the result of an intense weekend of poring over old Hotlines with a magnifying glass and a lot of work in MS Paint and PhotoShop. Those sail pattern boats are detailed right down to the correct sail numbers and sponsor logos, although you really can't see it on those low-res images.

And, yes I do have clip art for damn near everything. That's why I'm the magazine editor.

And the year is right, too. Model year starts in August. (So 1988 boats were being built in August of 1987.)

The nationals colors in '87 were red, blue, light blue and purple.

Is this a 16 or a 14 we're talking about?

Yeah that 420 gets them every time! I had a 14 recently and Hobie swapped the numbers on the sails--one side was like 49967 and the other was 49976. I sold it to a friend and it is a little confusing in races.

I saw somewhere that they are making camouflage sail cloth! When are they going to come out with tie-dye???

Its a 16 I bought for Jordon (daughter). I have new set of sails to use on it so I wanted to sell the one's that came with it, but didn't know the name of them to describe it. Thanks for the help, and yes, the kids did have the Ventura mags and I saw those last night.

I understand you having alot of clip art for the sailing stuff you do for the mag ( a+ work btw) but having a picture of a can of Barkeepers Friend? Thats sick. :D

Sunburst - now I remember! Rob Jerry had one of those. It was the original "RastaHobie". It had a vinyl sunburst on the sail.

1993

Chris - just for the record, I do not have a photo of BarKeeper's Friend on my hard drive.

I stole somebody else's bandwidth by linking to an image I found with Google Image Search.

Okay, you're off the hook. Pretty ingenious.
We're sailing 14s this weekend. Supposed to be 65 with 15mph winds nne. I am sure I'll flip and turtle and be in the water all morning.
