Ordered a H2640 and an H194 for my old H16 from my local yacht supply business last week and got told today that Harken has discontinued the H194 and they can't supply it.
Is that possible or is this clown blowning smoke up my ass.
If it's true anyone (Matt) know what the replacement gear is?
Have at it boys and girls !!!

The 194 is not in Harken's catalog anymore.

You might call around to see if someone's got one in stock. APS still has the 194 listed on their site: http://www.apsltd.com/c-508-ratchetsautoratchets.aspx (scroll almost to the bottom of the page)

Otherwise, the replacement is #2612:

Ronstan doesn't make a triple ratchet that small (smallest is 55 mm).

They won't make them if we aren't buying them.

We have some in stock. Have to check. We get a special version for our use. Can't imagine doing a Worlds with the way the carbo's cleat angle adjusts... PITA.

Agree with that, although they are sweet on the 14 and 17 - no blown tacks!

Thanks guys for the info.I'll call APS on Friday.
I don't race......well just against the other old H16 clunkers on the river around here.If I have to I'll go with the 2612.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. As a new racer, I thought this just came with the territory. Is there a preferred lower block that's easier to adjust?

TIA,

Pete

Matt,

I was referring to the comment regarding adjustment of the cleat angle. It seems to be a problem to me, too. I was wondering if folks have found a better alternative.

Thanks,

Pete

This is not much of an issue for most people. You set and forget, but is a problem when you need to adjust regularly such as at a Worlds when the boat is swapped from team to team each and every race.

I too would be interested to hear if others have found a solution to the 194 shortage. We will have to provide blocks for a future Worlds (have enough now for one or two more events). It will become an issue again for us.

Matt- At this years Alter Cup we swapped blocks around from boat to boat. It worked out there was only two settings the sailors even used. I'm not sure which Harken block it was that was on the boats, but you had to remove six screws to adjust it, a massive pain in the rear.

Saltysailor- HOLT has the best cleated adjustment, but its not a great block. I'm a huge fan of the Ronstan Orbit blocks, good cleat adjustment, the ratcheting sheeve is super aggressive and hand holding it is the easiest of anything I've used.

You can't do that with 60 boats and 120 teams rotating through between each race. Greg Thomas is working with Steve Fields and Ronstan to develop / test an alternative just in case.

The Ronstan ones are super easy to adjust. One phillips head screw on each side that doesn't have to be removed to raise and lower the cleat.
