family wants to go camping this memorial day weekend and i want to go sailing. are there any good lakes to sail on that have camping grounds near / next to them in southern cali? so they can go hiking during the day while i go sailing and then we can meet up in the afternoon / evening.

is there a spiffy website that lists some spots or any ideas?

Big Bear but you cannot keep the boat near a camping area. You will have to launch the boat at one of the ramps. I think there are 3 or four available. There is also a lake use fee that you will have to pay.

Lake Perris is kind of a desert lake. I am sure you will be able to camp right next to the boat.

Lake Cachuma is a great lake you may have to call to see if they allow sailboats when there is not a regatta.

Lake Isabella is another desert lake. It can blow a bit there.

Lake Castaic is another lake that is pretty nice for sailing.

Later,
Dan

David:

I will be sailing out of ABYC. I keep my boat there and will probably be on the beach next to the club Saturday morning. There will be about 5 to 7 Formula 18s and 7 to 8 A Cats there.

The rest of the catamaran sailors will be at the Claremont ramp. The skippers meeting on Saturday is usually about 10:00 in the patio area.

My Tiger,s sail number is 1727. If the sail is not up look for a rotator system that is at the bottom of the mast instead of above the boom. Oh and the name of the boat is Diamond Girl.

Later,
Dan
