Yeah, BUT, that is called sailing with family and friends and that's what it is all about.

Be nice if there were a mast tang type attachment at the top of the European boats' masts for attaching a Bob. Using "search" there are a number of complaints about the Universal Bob mounting bracket rivets loosening.

Nice quote from someone about anti-turtling float:

I like the idea of removable floatation. When I have two people and I know we can right the boat or I am racing I don't want the BOB or any floatation up on the mast.

When I am sailing alone (which I do often) I would like floatation to keep the boat from going turtle. I like the "new cat" idea and plan to work on that project this winter.

You might want to check with Rick at Midwest Sailing (on Portage Lk, MI). I was over there on Friday and saw they have a nice flotation setup they devised a number of years ago. I don't have a pic, but will try to describe:

They created a long cloth pocket using something similar to black boat-tarp material. It is roughly 4-5 feet long, about 6" wide, and about 1.5-2" thick. This was stuffed with closed-cell foam, wrapped around the leading edge of the comp tip section, and riveted in place. The result was a very lightweight setup that provided significant buoyancy (it was originally developed for a 21 and held it up). Windage seemed pretty minimal and appearance not-so-bad since it blended in with the comp-tip.

Just a thought - might save you some time.

I noticed that on Midwest website but there is very little information. Thanks for the description.

I am NOT saying that Hobie Bob is a bad thing or won't work on the FX. (The Bob on the Wave is amazing.) I just hesitate to put more rivets in the mast. If the mast is damaged, the replacement cost is steep. I was looking for another attachment method. The APS mast flotation is smart -- a piece of sail cloth between the floatation bags that wraps around the bolt rope and attaches simply to the top of sail. It slides up with the sail. The question is always is it enough flotation to work.

A german built a frame that installs under the trampoline that enables a 65kg person to right a Fx without problem. Its wouldn´t be difficult to copy but please contact the designer first
