I am going to buy a new Getaway on monday. I am getting it as a recreational family boat. Does anyone think That this is not the boat i should get? I sailed Laser and the like before, but no catamarans.
Thanks Paul

Purely recreational? You'll love it. And you'll be racing with your family in no more than a day's time. Welcome to the world of catamarans, man: The Mustangs of the Seas.

IMHO, I think that for taking out a few people, and just cruising around, trying to fly a few hulls, maybe do some fun capsizes, the Getaway will be great. Have fun.

It's difficult to answer your question without more information on why you want a cat in the first place. Also, you're asking the wrong people if a cat is the way to go - WE LOVE CATS! - so we're biased.

I can relate my experience with my in-laws, though. They own a house on a lake and use an old Laser for fun. I put on a full court press to get a Hobie 16, but no one understood why I cared so much for a sailboat. After getting the 16, one by one they were quickly converted to cats even after a couple ferocious pitchpoles and capsizes. The Laser hasn't left the shoreline since the Hobie showed up.

This is the most common question we get "I want a boat for the family that is easy to sail, fast, stable, durable, and can be handled by one person that we will not out grown in a season"

We simply show them the Getaway and recommend the wings, 90% of the people who don't get wings the 1st time around come back in a bout 2 weeks for them.

So yes the Getaway will be the perfect boat for yall, have fun sailing and be sure to let your kids skipper, before you know it they will be asking for one of there own, maybe a Bravo or Wave!

Thanks,

Thanks everyone
Ordering the boat today, with wings. The Getaway seems like it will fit the bill very well. Fun,easy to sail day sailor. I live not to have to remind my non sailing friends to watch out for the boom.
