To those of you storing your Hobies mast-up: How do you, or DO you protect your comptip from the sun? Currently I trailer mine, and cover it at all times when not sailing. After 12 years, it still looks brand new. The sun can be especially brutal in Florida, so I want to protect it if possible. Is there a way to rig up a halyard to the cover and hoist it? Wax ? UV protectant of some kind? Thanks in advance.. |

Flat black rattle can spray paint. I shot my comptip with black grill paint two years ago when I first started keeping my boat on the beach mast up and it still looks fine today after two summers in the sun. The other option would be to flip the boat on it's side and put the comptip cover on after you're done sailing . sm |

my mast is clear anodized, so I used white expoxy paint. its been on for many years with no signs of degrading. plus the white paint reflects rather than absorbs radiant heat. |

I chose Krylon glossy black for my comptips. My theory is that glossy paint should reflect UV better than flat. I could be wrong. |

srm wrote: The other option would be to flip the boat on it's side and put the comptip cover on after you're done sailing . sm I like that idea a lot, but I've got wings, and they're a little cumbersome to deal with trying to flip it on the beach. Looks like spray paint is the most durable way to go...too bad though, I really don't like changing OEM parts. Quote: this is what I do (303) hit it once at start of season & once mid-summer I considered this, but it seems like it would not last in the brutal beach environment. I'm going to give it a try before I go the paint route. thanks for all the input |
