Am I crazy or would a 79 hobie 16 be worth trading or selling for a bravo? |

There will be all kinds of people telling you not to do this. Me? I'd say the Bravo is less maintenance, quicker to rig, and simple to sail. For many, that means more time on the water. You can also comfortably sail it in smaller lakes. Any reason why you're thinking about making this particular switch? That might help people give you advice that is relevant to you, and not just their own situation. Personally, I have no desire to go to a fiberglass hull. My next boat will be a Wave or a Getaway. |

Just for the same reasons you mentioned. Easier access to smaller lakes (read: be able to go more often) mostly. I have a smaller lake within 15 minutes that would be great to go out on. The closest place to take the 16 is at least an hour, and by the time you get it rigged and launched, that's another hour (annoying power boat designed launches). Seeing videos and reviews of the Bravo, it really does look like the perfect boat for me. My wife doesn't always like going, so its perfect to go alone, or if she changes her mind, take her along for a slower trip. |

Sounds like a great reason to get a Bravo. If you have the cash, look at the Wave as well though. It's a bit better for two people, as it can hold 800 lbs instead of 400. But, yeah! More sailing is what it's all about! The Bravo is great for that. I can go from trailer to sailing in literally 5 minutes. |

Keep an eye out on the used market. I got mine for a steal. There's far less to go wrong with these boats, so you can very quickly tell if you have every piece and part that you need, and see if they are in working order. I don't think it's a bad deal new, but I was able to sell my AI, and buy the boat, have a custom trailer made for me, and a custom dolly, and still have some cash left over. For me, it was a no brainer. Now if I get a Wave or Getaway next, I'll be able to modify my trailer to suit. |

Looks like I'll just need to keep an eye out for a used Bravo. Googling around I'm not going to get much for my boat to be able to afford a new one. |

I'll have to wait until spring to do it at a launch site, but maybe I can do it in my driveway. My trailer allows me to loop 4 straps through 4 of the outermost scupper holes. So the process goes like this: -- Drive to Launch area, -- Undo 3 of 4 straps on boat -- Unstrap Sail, remove from sail bag -- Put rudder on, -- Put Bob on, -- Raise mast, connect lines -- Back trailer up to water, -- Remove last strap, Boat is free, park the car, and sail! From the beach it's WAY easier. -- Put Bob on mast, -- Raise mast, -- Connect rudder, -- Connect lines to rudder Slide to water, and GO! The roller furling system makes a big difference! Oh, and the camera that I use is actually a Kodak Playsport ZX3 An underrated little camera, that was pretty cheap. Good value. I have to remember to take more video's. Nobody that I ACTUALLY know appreciates them, but if they're useful here, that's great! |
