Don't rely on weather helm to prevent your problem. A loose main and a sheeted jib will still result in a runaway boat (don't ask me how I know).

I would strongly recommend a handheld waterproof VHF radio attached to your life vest if you're sailing solo out in open water.

Of course, hang on and don't get separated is the best idea, but things don't always work out that way.
