I sealed my mast a few day ago, during the process, I was wondering how well the mast base and mast top are sealed into the mast. It is very difficult to seal the mast top because of the pulley wont let me get all the way around.
Is the mast base/top sealed good into the mast from the factory? I'd rather not dunk my mast in salt water to find out?
If its really old like many are you can carefully drill out the rivets and remove the casting. Mine had a major ring of very old silcone inside but you could tell it didn't seal anymore. It was still stuck in the mast good and provided a kind gasket so I cleaned it up as best I could and added a new ring of silicone sealer on top of it and put the casting back on then re riveted it in place. It seemed to work pretty well.
