The jib was torn today by the spreader on the H-18. I am going into Chicago tomorrow to find a sail repairer.

What can anyone tell me about mending mylar/dacron jib H-18 sail? Can it be patched with the same material/color successfully? Can it be patched with just dacron? Has anyone has success with a 2' X 2' patch on an H-18 jib?

HELP

John,
I've had that repair done too many times. First get the spreaders covered and replace the rollers if yours are damaged. They make some that can be installed without removing the wire, ronstan I believe. The sailmaker that was in Myrtle would cut the damage out and replace a triangle shape in the sail. Clean repair but no color matching, always white. Repaired a Fox jib this way, looked good and held up well. The mylar/dacron material isn't readily available. Maybe repair with pure dacron or pentex. Sail tape won't hold on the leech so not an option. Better to cut it out than patch on top of the damage.
