Post subject:  Need a waterproof camera......suggestions ?

We recently adquired a brand new Fuji "waterproof" digital simple camera
( around $125.oo ) and it worked well for a couple of months, but somehow it got humidity inside ( fogged display ) and quit working.
I had Fuji cameras before, and they are good cameras, but I will like to buy a better more reliable one, kind of like a "tank proof" model so I have a better investment in the long run.
Any experiences with a good model or brand ?

I love my new GoPro with LCD backpack. Its not really made for still photos though. The LCD backpack makes it easy to frame photos but it just doesn't feel right as a regular camera. It is awesome for video though and is definitely bomb proof.

We also have the GoPro camera and love it. It's waterproof and durable, but it has it's limitations. It has a fixed wide angle lens - no normal lens or telephoto.
It's really a specialty camera for taking those Hero shots. Great for Hobie Cat sailing. Many ways of mounting it to just about anything. I believe they just came out with a remote control. It takes video and stills in HD.
Fogged display....This can fog up, but easy to correct. Just use their anti fog inserts or make your own out of ShamWow or something else that absorbs moisture. They have a GoPro Forum just like this Hobie Cat Forum with advice and helpful tips. I had fogging on one video, but learned how to easily prevent that from happenig again from their GoPro forum.
We just returned from a trip to the Caribbean with pictures from our GoPro camera; both underwater and above.Very hot and humid, but NO Fogging. I used ShamWow inserts that I cut up. Inexpensive and worked great.

I have an Olympus and a Panasonic water proof camera. Both work well provided you make sure the access panels are free of dirt/sand/hair and properly closed (Very important!!!).

Also add a float device for it - they sink really fast! LOL.

Seems most camera makers have come out with flavors of the water proof cameras. I will be inclined to take a look at the new Panasonic or Nikon offerings. Review them all and pick the one with the features you like the most.

Most of the pictures I have posted on this site are from the Panasonic camera.

I got a DSC-TX10 and has been very satisfied with it. It produces excellent images and as long as you would be taking pictures within a depth of 16 feet, it will do just fine. A bit pricey but worth it. Very handy too.

For pictures use the Olympus Tough, I used to use it for video, but I got a gopro and now I use that for video.

100% recommendation on the Olympus Tough for pictures. That is a really really tough camera and pictures are great. One thing though, this is not a camera for indoor use or night pictures.
