Go for it! The factory supports the class with cash. The class needs to use that cash to promote the class. The class needs guys like you to do the work. Volunteer... put your ideas to work.

I'd be happy to try and get a fleet going in Central NC. From what I can tell, all the existing fleets in the area have been disbanded.

What are the steps to do this? Is there a minimum number of people or boats? Can I reactivate an old fleet or do I have to start from scratch?

A written guide would be a huge help.

hahahaha. good one Matt. that Hobie Day Out gig was not in the USA. thats one of the main arguments of this thread. where are these events in the USA? why is it that while browsing the net most cool Hobie events/products are not here? how bout a Hobie day here with all Hobies, not just kayaks. kayaks, cats, SUPs the whole 9. like i said before...exposure.

did Hobie USA put on that gig or did Hobie Australasia?

Is there more we could/should possibly do to let folks know just how easy it is to start a fleet and how far people will go to support them? People need to know what great people you guys all are!!!!

Maybe publish on the HCANA website and everywhere else just how easy it is... Give some press to what sounds like a great success with Fleet 401.

What are we doing to encourage people to start fleets?


i agree i was actually trying to figure out how do you start a fleet because the closest fleet to me is on the other coast and there is a couple active hobies in sarasota now.

some dude said he bought a dragoon followed by a bunch of folks wondering why here in the USA(birth place of Hobie) we cant get one.

matt responds by pumping up plastic kayaks and raving about a kayak event in australia.

still no real answers about why euro boats are not avail here.

you need boat owners to start fleet.

boats come before fleets.

egg before the chicken.

Apology accepted. Now, Gino, heed my advice. If you'd like to elaborate about all the things you've done to help grow our sport, we'd be all ears. If you could share some things that have worked based on your experience, we'd be appreciative. On the other hand, your continuous rants and snide remarks are getting rather tiresome. You obviously have a lot of energy. If you could channel it in a positive direction, or at least make your points in a more positive manner, you could be a great asset to our community. Your comment about the Hotline on the other thread was completely wrong. Get more involved, learn more about us.

Jeffrey,

So it's been awhile since your innocent post about getting a Dragoon and a few of us being curious started a whole different debacle. Being one of the original curious cats about your new venture, what's your verdict? Did you get the forbidden fruit and run it through its paces yet? Would love to hear/ see your feedback either on here or via pm.

Well, things have changed a bit...

Today we announced the purchase of Hobie Cat Europe. This is effective 9-1-2012.

Hobie Cat USA now owns Hobie Cat Europe and have put the Hobie Cat company back together again as one company after 23 years split into two by Coleman when they sold us into two separate companies. Nothing has yet changed as far as availability of Hobie Cat Europe boats, but the process of getting products here is changed.

We will now be deciding what products to build in Europe and importing here and visa verse. We will be working on that in the coming year. For now... no changes.
