Post subject:  Virginia Beach where to Hobie Cat

Recently moved to Virginia Beach from the west coast. With all the water, I am thinking about getting a Hobie Cat. I have sailed some in Mission Bay previously. I was wondering where the "local" hot spots are.

Is there somewhere that you can find hobie sailors on any given weekend?

Can you launch in Sandbridge?

Hobie 18 or 16 around here?

Looking for any feedback or suggestions as I obtain a hobie cat.
Thanks

Hey Scott,

Fleet 32 is a very active cat fleet in VA Beach.

I would try to hook up with that group. They can probably help you locate a boat too.

Good luck!

Where exactly do you live now? Where to launch might be your primary concern unless you plan to leave your boat on the beach. A friend of mine says he is selling his Hobie Tiger.

I live down in Lago Mar near sandbridge. My friend has a house on Sandbridge Beach (North End) and may let me keep it there. In the summer.
I may be interested in the tiger. Do you have any details and asking price?

I am looking at a Hobie 18 but not sure if it is a boat that can be soloed.
Usually will have at least one on boat or 3 but I still want to be able to solo sometimes.
Would love it if I can have someone give me some pointers and show me some areas when I do get a boat. I have never put a Hobie on a trailer. The one I am looking at comes with a trailer, but I will need practice. They also are selling a beach dolly with it.

Good luck on finding your boat. I too have a place in Sandbridge and sail a Bravo. It's great to walk it across the street and right in the water. Sailing in Back Bay is suppose to be great - FYI. Welcome to Virginia Beach!

Many years ago I sailed a friends Narca 16 off Virginia Beach. It was one of the best outtings I ever had. We even had a couple dolphins swim along with us for a while. A word of advice, look for a landmark when you take off from the beach. It is amazing how it all looks alike from the water. I didn't but fortunately my crew did, otherwise who knows where we would have landed.
