I am considering buying a part from another member of this forum, but it involves shipping. How do I ensure the seller actually ships the part and it is all complete and in a condition as described?

Or is an act of faith?

Pretty much...you can do a lil digging into that persons activity here and get an idea if they are genuine. Or if its a spendy item...maybe look into an escrow service?

In my experience, Hobie folk tend to be honest people. That being said, it's usually best to ask for a phone number to speak to a real person and use paypal.

Otherwise, that's the risk you take trying to get a deal. You want risk free purchasing, buy through an actual shop and pay retail prices.

Buy local or use pay-pal and trust your fellow man. My experience with forums has been good. Knock on wood.

I have sold many parts and bought many parts from the forums. I just shipped a set of boards for a Tiger and have never met the guy other than e mail and Forum contact.

Same here, never been disappointed with any transaction. With that said, I probably would be very careful with a seller that has 1 or 2 posts on the board.

+1, never had an issue with anyone on from the forums. However, i generally like to have at least a short phone conversation (to make sure they're a real person, where they say they are). And like any other transaction, if it smells at all fishy, walk away.
