I have a hobie 16 and trailer but its the trailer without the mast stand on it. Was wondering the best way to tie the mast down without it bouncing around everywhere? Also is the boat easy enough to get back on the trailer without a winch?

Id find/fab a mast stand. I use rubber bungees (good ones!) 2 at each end so as to have a backup. Folded towel under rear of mast over crossbar.
16 is easy to get on trailer usually. Winch can be handy if your solo though.

Couple I found in quick google search...height required depends on tow vehicle!

Yes... You need something forward. The mast typically rides high over the tow vehicle (it is 26 feet long). Otherwise it would be hanging 13 feet or more behind the aft beam unsupported. Also the mast stand forward spaces the support points widely.

One other piece of advice... stabilize the boat in position on the trailer (tie down). Keep it from shifting forward when braking. When the mast is held well in a mast stand... Shifting of the boat on the trailer can cause mast damage at the aft tie down point.

I support my masts with pipe supports not connected to the boat It has worked for me

Also consider the Hobie mast cradle for the rear attachment. It attaches to the aft frame and really does a good job. Available from your local Hobie dealer http://www.hobiecat.com/support/dealers/search/ ...
Here's the item http://www.mariner-sails.com/partdetail.asp?id=23674

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into installing some mast support

I've used the Hobie Mast Cradle for all three of my boats. It works very well. No issues with it coming loose.

I am a fan of the Mast-Caddie from Midwest Aquatics. These caddie have been out of production for a long time. :(

I have used the same one on my Hobie 16's since '85 without any issue. Many long road trips at high speed and no trouble at all.....

Last year, I found a new one on Ebay and order it right away. So now I have one for my other 16.... :D

I have read on this form that other trailer sailors have mix reviews on the Mast-Caddie ,problems with bolts rattling loose and whatever so I have always kept an eye on that. :o
